Club and Community Unite in Positive Futures Workshops
Football In The Community is providing a series of workshops and activity days aimed at young people included in the new Children's Services Positive Futures programme as part of the football club's week of action in the One Game One Community campaign.
Youngsters from around Lincolnshire are taking part in the workshops - hosted at Sincil Bank stadium - aimed at raising awareness of discrimination and prejudice in society and in sport. The programme includes a behind-the-scenes stadium tour and a practical coaching session on the astroturf, as well as a workshop where young people are encouraged to discuss and share their experiences of dicrimination, racism and prejudice.
Positive Futures is a national sports and activity based inclusion project, the aim of which is to engage young people aged 8 to 24 years in sports, arts and other positive activities and use this engagement as a basis for broader social development. Dave Sampher, from Children's Services, which is coordinating the programme, commented, "This is a fantastic project which is now in its second year partnership with Lincoln City, using the power of football as a great way of getting young people to talk about these important issues and their experiences of discrimination and prejudice."
