Disability & Equity

Over the last year, the Community Imps coaching staff have been very busy delivering coaching sessions as part of our pan-Disability Programme to a wide number of young people and adults in a variety of locations around the county.

This includes a summer programme we provided to NCH, the National Children Homes charity, where we delivered sessions in Lincoln, Boston, Grantham, Louth, Gainsborough and Sleaford during the summer holidays which included football skills, core skills such as throwing and catching, speed, agility and coordination, and lots of different multi-skills. And our schools programme has included activities during school time as well as extracurricular sessions in schools such as Lady Jane Franklin School at Spilsby.

As a follow on from our work in a number of specialist schools, we recently invited pupils from Sincil School, Queens Park, St Christopher's and St Francis School to our first ever 'Ability Counts Festival' hosted here at Lincoln City. Pupils worked in groups on a variety of activities such as ball manipulation, shooting, tricks and skills, and agility, before taking part in a mini-tournament. The day was rounded off with a behind-the-scenes tour of the football club. And more recently we delivered an 'Ability Counts' day prior to the Lincoln City vs Grimsby Town game. The session focussed on developing core agility and coordination skills and the participants then enjoyed the thrill of matchday at Sincil Bank by watching the Imps take on their local rivals.

Plus - we now have our first ever disability team affiliated to Lincoln City Football in the Community. The 'Power Chair' squad is always looking for new players and is actively working to expand and take part in some fixtures. For more information on the Power Chair team, our Ability Counts programme, or any aspect of the work we do with disability groups, contact damon.parkinson@redimps.com  or call the Community Imps team on 01522 563792.
