Round 1: Match 8
St Faith & St Martin 0 St Peter at Gowts 0
On a freezing cold afternoon at Sincil Bank, the final round one tie in this year's competition brought together two of our smallest schools in an extremely tight encounter.
Reece Dickinson forced an early St Faith's corner with a fine individual dribble, but Rhys Garratt cleared the danger. Jack Pollard then burst through from midfield forcing more pressure on the St Peter at Gowts goal while at the other end Aaron Rahimi was quickly off his line to save at the feet of Liam Murray.
Dominic Miles almost opened the scoring for St Faith's but his snapshot flew just wide of the upright before an instinctive left foot volley from Morgan Lambert piled more pressure on Joshua Sperrin's goal. But St Peter at Gowts responded well, some good work in midfield from Oliver Means and Max Fisher almost creating a chance for James Newby.
Late on, and with the tie locked at 0-0, the highlight of the game was a brilliant flying save from man-of-the-match Joshua Sperrin in the St Peter at Gowt's goal as he tipped Josh Harrison's long range effort over the bar at full stretch.
The game ended in deadlock and St Faith & St Martin squeezed through by the smallest of margins having had more shots on goal than their opponents. Congratulations to St Peter at Gowts for a spirited performance and well done to St Faith's who take their place in the quarter finals.
