Quarter Final 1
Manor Leas 0 Morton Trentside 0
The first quarter final tie in this year's competition was yet another tight encounter between two schools who had both kept clean sheets in their first round matches.
Morton forced an early corner taken by Lewis Butroid which was headed clear, and Manor Leas replied with a long distance effort from Harrison Jago. Ben Sleight then burst through from midfield for Morton but Jack Forman quickly cleared the danger. Matthew Clarke's corner was then cleared by Ben Wray as Manor Leas increased the pressure, but they found Morton's defence hard to crack.
Sean Lawrence cleared another corner before Lewis Smith created the best chance of the game, forcing an excellent save from Josh Fisher at close range. Chances at either end were limited with Dylan Bridge and Alex Johnston working hard to keep Morton's attacks limited.
More late pressure from Manor Leas and Lewis Smith and Matthew Clarke both saw efforts fly off target, and despite a late surge from Morton's Ben Williamson, last year's runners up held on to take their place in the semi-finals by virtue of having had more shots on goal than their Gainsborough opponents.
Congratulations to both teams for a closely fought game played in excellent spirit and well done to Manor Leas who will return later in the competition. And if this quarter final tie is anything to go by there will be many more closely fought games in this year's tournament.
