Success at The Goal!

It's a win for The Goal Holiday Activity Club. With February half-term just behind us we are now looking ahead to the Easter holiday with great optimism. February half-term was a huge success and saw the introduction of more creative based activities for the children to participate in, with great results! The holiday club ran from Monday 15th through to Friday 19th, 8am til 5.30pm each day. The first challenge was put to the children on Monday morning and involved each of them attempting to protect an egg from breaking when thrown up into the air to land on the ground. Each child received one piece of bubble wrap, two straws, a piece of cotton wool, a sheet of newspaper, two elastic bands and a strip of sellotape. The children were given two minutes to negotiate with one another and trade items, before having five minutes to come up with their protective device. Out of the fourteen eggs thrown, three survived!

On Tuesday, The Goal hosted visitors Playrangers where the doors were open to children of all age ranges, from infants to older children. They had a great day with over 50 children attending throughout the afternoon. The Goal children participated in the event too, with a particular interest in the t-shirt designing. playrangers 1.jpgt-shirt design.jpg

More activities throughout the week included paper plate design, mask making, build a bridge challenge, catapult making, and a timed team drawing competition.

Thursday was our trip away day where we spent the afternoon at Superbowl. After a first ‘warm-up' game the bowling then got serious with a competition between the girls and the boys. It ended with a thirteen point difference in favour of the.... boys! Next time girls!

The holiday finished with a sports packed Friday morning where the children competed in a number of events, including hoopla, coconut shy, table tennis rally challenge, beanbag target throwing, hockey dribble and shoot challenge, egg and spoon race and more!

The children really enjoyed the week and parent feedback was very encouraging. Jane Robinson, the Out of School Quality Officer for Lincoln, made a visit to The Goal during the week and gave a positive report, as well as providing us with some helpful guidance to further improve our service for the future. Planning is now underway for the two week Easter holiday.
